Using Facebook to Advance Your Business

Almost everyone knows what Facebook is. That social networking website that allows millions of people to share thoughts, photos, music, videos and more every day, is one of the most successful sites on the Internet. More and more companies are taking advantage of this fact by using Facebook to advertise to people who are likely to use their services or visit their store. You can do the same thing in order to grow your business.

First, you need friends. Whether you start a fan page and have all of your friends “like” your page and pass it on, or you create an actual page that is dedicated to your business, you have to be connected to people who care about what you have to say.

One great way to do this is to hold a contest. Convince people that being your friend or liking your page is worth the prize that you are giving away. It also adds some fun to the page that makes people keep coming back to see what is happening.

You will also want to update your page at least three times per week. Those updates go directly to your customers and, even if they aren’t interested in the update from that day or the sale item you are promoting, your name has been put in front of them again. This is almost always a good thing.

Unfortunately, it is possible to over-do this as well. Customers who feel that their home page is cluttered with your updates, sale items, and photos may hide you from their wall or delete you from their friends list altogether. So, finding a happy medium with this technology is important as well.

The best thing about using Facebook for your business promotion is that posting on Facebook is free. So no matter how the advertising campaign goes, it won’t put a dent in your wallet.
